Illinois Wind Symphony

Dr. Kevin M. Geraldi, conductor

Comprised of approximately sixty undergraduate and graduate students who have attained the highest level of proficiency on their instruments, the Illinois Wind Symphony is the premiere ensemble of the University of Illinois Bands. Performing the finest available repertoire, the ensemble is a leader in the band profession and creatively trains wind players in a variety of conducted ensemble settings.

The Wind Symphony performs a minimum of three concerts per semester, with programs featuring traditional wind band literature, one-per-part chamber works and premiere performances of new compositions in the ever-expanding wind band genre. The ensemble functions as a flexible pool of musicians, with each work in the curriculum utilizing the instrumentation envisioned by the composer.

The artistic profile of the Illinois Wind Symphony includes commercial recording projects, touring, and appearances at campus, state, regional, national and international events and venues in service to the university and community.

The Wind Symphony is open to music majors and non-majors by audition.
